About Us

Hechalutz is a non-profit education center dedicated to educating towards Cultural Judaism and Chalutziut (pioneering Zionism) for Diaspora Jews. Hechalutz operates within the framework of HaMeorer, the Center for Alternative Education. We aim to connect Diaspora Jewry to Israel as the center and national home of the Jewish People by educating towards the timeless Zionist ideals of self-determination, collective and personal responsibility, democracy, and justice; the values Israel was founded on and continues to strive to embody. To this end we run experiential education activities based on the present Israeli reality, for Diaspora Jews in the spirit of the Chalutzim (the early Zionist pioneers). Hechalutz's style of education is based on dialogical learning and encourages critical thinking and challenging of participants' perceptions. All of this takes place in a friendly and informal environment.

Hechalutz is staffed by a network of olim (immigrants) and sabras (native Israelis), all alumni of youth movements, who embody the unique characteristics of youth movement leadership and are highly trained in informal education techniques and group building. All of this enhances their ability to move beyond being facilitators of content to educators. Our staff regularly engages with issues in Israeli society and the Jewish world in order to constantly be learning and building new programs for participants in an effort to create the best educational experience for your group.

Hechalutz educates hundreds of adults, youths and young adults each year, working with organizations such as Young Judea, Garin Tzabar, Chavaya Israelit, JCC Maccabi, Habonim Dror, Bnei Akiva, Yahel and more. Contact us to plan your Hechalutz experience.
